Kapaleeswarar Temple, located in Chennai, is a significant shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, with the goddess Karpagambal being worshipped here. The temple is surrounded by bustling streets, offering a vibrant atmosphere.
Next, we’ll drive to Mahabalipuram, with a stop at Kanchipuram. Your first visit should be the Varadharaja Perumal Temple, followed by the Ekambareswarar Temple and the Kamakshi Amman Temple.
The Varadharaja Perumal Temple is one of the 108 Vishnu temples, which was visited by 12 poet-saints known as the Alwars.
The Ekambareswarar Temple, the largest in Kanchipuram, is located in the northern part of the town. The massive gopuram (gateway tower), standing at 59 meters, was built over 1200 years ago. This temple is one of the five prominent Shiva temples, symbolizing the earth. The other four include Thiruvanaikaval Jambukeswara, Chidambaram Natarajar, Thiruvannamalai Arunachaleswara, and Kalahasti Nathar temples.
Next, visit the Kamakshi Amman Temple, a key temple in Tamil Nadu, dedicated to Goddess Parvati as the mother goddess.
We will then drive to Mahabalipuram, where you’ll check in at your hotel for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, you’ll head out to explore Mahabalipuram, visiting the Pancha Rathas, Arjuna’s Penance, and the Shore Temple.
The Pancha Rathas is a complex of five monolithic structures, each resembling a chariot and named after the five Pandavas and Draupadi. These stunning monuments are carved from a single rock.
Arjuna’s Penance depicts the story of one of the Pandava brothers, Arjuna, who performed severe penance to obtain a powerful weapon from Lord Shiva.
The Shore Temple, named for its location overlooking the Bay of Bengal, is constructed from granite blocks and dates back to the 18th century. It was a prominent port during the reign of Narasimhavarman II of the Pallava dynasty.
Next, we’ll proceed to Pondicherry, making a stop at a salt farm to witness the process of salt extraction.
Upon arrival in Pondicherry, check in at your hotel. Later, visit the local museum and the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Take a leisurely walk through the Botanical Garden, past the Post Office, Alliance Française, and the French War Memorial.
