Mandawa offers an authentic glimpse into the heart of India. This charming town is a favorite among travelers who want to explore rural India, often referred to as an open-air art gallery. Situated along the ancient Silk Road, which once connected the Middle East to China, Mandawa has a rich historical significance.
The town flourished as a hub for merchants during the 18th century, with Thakur Nawal Singh playing a key role in its development and protection.
A must-see in Mandawa are its grand Havelis—distinctive regional homes featuring open courtyards, numerous windows, and walls adorned with vibrant murals. These paintings often depict scenes of gods, kings, local life, foreign landscapes, and even modern elements like trains and telephones. Overnight stay at the Castle.

To enter the fort, you must pass through seven gates, each bearing the scars of past battles.
At the second gate, you can still see the cannonball marks from a siege by the Jaipur army. One of the gates, Jaipol (the “Victory Gate”), was constructed by Maharaja Man Singh to celebrate his victory over the armies of Jaipur and Bikaner. Another gate, Fatehpol, also a “Victory Gate,” was built by Maharaja Ajit Singh to commemorate his triumph over the Mughals. Inside the fort, you will find stunning palaces like Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace), where the royal throne of Jodhpur and the Shringar Chowki are on display, along with vast courtyards, art galleries, and temples.
Next, visit the Umaid Bhawan Palace, built between 1929 and 1943 by Maharaja Umaid Singh. This luxurious palace was designed by renowned English architect Henry Vaughan Lanchester to provide employment to thousands during a period of famine. The palace boasts 347 rooms, and part of the complex is now home to the royal family as well as a lavish Taj hotel.

The City Palace, overlooking Lake Pichola, is a vast complex consisting of 11 palaces, courtyards, and gardens, celebrated for its intricate peacock mosaics. This iconic site is one of the most popular tourist destinations, with the city’s streets constantly filled with visitors.
Lake Pichola lies behind the City Palace, and along its eastern shores are the former homes of Udaipur’s noble families, now transformed into hotels. Enjoy a scenic boat ride on the beautiful Lake Pichola, with a visit to the famous Jagmandir Island, located within the lake.

Varanasi, also known as Benares, is situated on the banks of the sacred Ganges River. It is a revered religious hub, considered one of the holiest of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) in Hinduism and Jainism, and has played a significant role in the history of Buddhism.
It is believed that Buddha established Buddhism here around 528 BC when he delivered his first sermon, “The turning of the wheel of Dharma,” in Sarnath. The famous Chinese traveler Xuanzang (Hiuen Tsiang) visited the city around 635 AD, describing it as a thriving center of religious and artistic activity, stretching about 5 kilometers along the western bank of the Ganges.
Varanasi is a prominent center of Hindu devotion, pilgrimage, mysticism, and poetry, which has greatly contributed to its reputation as a cultural and religious educational center. The great poet Tulsidas wrote his epic poem, *Ram Charit Manas*, about the life of Lord Rama in Varanasi.
